Tim Perkins is a business law litigator whose practice focuses mainly on employment law and construction law.  He represents clients in federal and state courts, as well as in administrative law proceedings, such as those before the Tennessee Department of Labor, the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Commission, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  He is licensed to practice in all Tennessee and Mississippi State Courts, the federal district courts for the Western and Middle Districts of Tennessee, the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Circuits, as well as the United States Supreme Court.  Tim has had the opportunity to present an oral argument to the Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit in Chicago, IL.  You may listen to the argument here.  Tim recently petitioned the United States Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari, which you may view at JD Supra.

Tim is a lifelong Memphian who grew up in the Raleigh/Bartlett area and later moved to Cordova where he attended Houston High School.  While in high school, Congressman John Tanner granted Tim an appointment to all three United States Military Academies.  Tim began his college career at the United States Military Academy in WestPoint, NY, but later transferred home to Memphis, where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Finance and Economics from Christian Brothers University, summa cum laude.  Upon graduating from C.B.U., he enrolled at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey’s School of Law.

While in law school, Tim participated in a number of extracurricular activities and was elected as an Associate Justice of the Moot Court Board.  He also won several awards for his writing, including an award for the Best Brief in the University of Memphis Advanced Moot Court Competition in 2003, and an award for the Second Best Respondent Brief in the 29th Annual Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition held at New York Law School in 2005.  Since 2007, Tim has had the distinct pleasure of serving as the Advisor/Coach for the Wagner Moot Court Team.  In fall 2010, Tim began teaching as an adjunct professor of law for the University of Memphis Law School, where he teaches a class on Legal Research, Writing, and Oral Advocacy ("Legal Methods").

Tim is also an admitted technology addict who enjoys dabbling in everything from social networking (click here to view an article that Tim wrote for the Tennessee Bar Journal about attorneys using Twitter) to writing music.  Tim and his family attend the Life Church of Memphis, where Tim has played the keyboards for the last seven years.  He’s also an avid Tiger fan who believes that there is no excuse for scheduling an event that coincides with a Tiger Basketball or Football game — unless, that is, it’s to watch the game.  You can follow Tim’s musings on his personal blog at http://www.timperkins.me or view his Martindale Hubbell profile here.
